That shape above is India, drawn from nothing but the positions of the venues in this dataset — no coastline, no map tiles, just 78,070 points, each one somewhere you can eat or sleep. It is the most honest picture of the country this site can draw, and it is also the reason the site exists: the data is public, and nobody had assembled it into a form you could use.

51,371 places to eat and 26,699 to stay, across 12,254 named towns and suburbs and all 36 states and territories. It is not spread evenly: Kerala (16,054), Karnataka (11,636) and Maharashtra (7,142) hold 45% of everything between them, and Bengaluru alone accounts for 853.

What this is

15,651 venues carry a cuisine tag (20%). The most common across India are indian (4,601), regional (2,155), coffee shop (2,052), pizza (1,912) and burger (1,457). Those national proportions are the baseline every town page is measured against — when a page says somewhere over-indexes on one thing, this is what it is being compared to.

The balance between eating and sleeping runs 66% to 34% here. That is a high accommodation share, and it is what a country that hosts more visitors than it has residents to feed looks like in the data.

On data quality, which sets a hard ceiling on what any of these pages can tell you: 6,465 venues publish opening hours (8%), 4,027 list a website, and 1,050 record step-free access. 365 carry enough detail for a page of their own; the rest are listed on their town pages, because a page with a name and a map pin on it is worth nobody's time. OpenStreetMap coverage in India is concentrated in the metros; this is a floor on what exists, not a census.
