Of the 9,323 venues we hold across New Zealand, 8,727 are places to eat — 94% of the total. They break down as 1,887 cafés, 4,391 restaurants, 1,996 takeaways, 305 bars and 148 pubs.
Distribution is heavily uneven. Singapore alone holds 8,612 of them — 99% of the national total — and the top three regions (Singapore) account for 99% between them. The thinnest is Singapore with 8,612. Averaged across the 347 named places we hold, that is 25.1 per town — a figure almost no individual town matches, because the median settlement has a handful and the cities have hundreds.
4,300 of the 8,727 eating places carry a cuisine tag (49%). Nationally the most common are coffee shop (624), chinese (559), japanese (370), burger (321), indian (242) and bubble tea (193). Those proportions are worth holding in mind when a town page says it over- or under-indexes on something: the comparison is always against this national mix, not against an ideal.
On data quality: 1,912 publish opening hours (22%), 1,369 list a website (16%), and 1,150 record step-free access (13%). 307 carry at least six recorded attributes, which is the bar a venue has to clear before we give it a page of its own — 4% of the total. The rest are listed on their town pages. Every gap is an unrecorded attribute rather than a known absence, because all of this comes from open data: OpenStreetMap for the venues themselves, public registers for verification. Nothing here is scraped from a commercial directory, and no venue has paid to appear or to rank.
