Ontario accounts for 37% of every venue we hold in New Zealand, which makes it the 1st-largest of the 13 regions by venue count. Those 33,429 venues sit across 1,556 named towns and suburbs, of which 219 carry at least 25 venues and get a page of their own.
Distribution inside the region is relatively even: Toronto (3,799), Ottawa (1,334) and Vaughan (1,187) hold 19% of everything between them. The remaining 1,337 places average 5.4 venues each — a long tail of small settlements that we list on the nearest town page rather than give an empty page to.
The regional split runs 93% eating to 11% accommodation, against a national 81/19. Accommodation is thinner on the ground here than nationally, which is what a region with more residents than tourists looks like in the data.
