That shape above is Samoa, drawn from nothing but the positions of the venues in this dataset — no coastline, no map tiles, just 253 points, each one somewhere you can eat or sleep. It is the most honest picture of the country this site can draw, and it is also the reason the site exists: the data is public, and nobody had assembled it into a form you could use.

117 places to eat and 136 to stay, across 89 named towns and suburbs and all 9 regions. It is not spread evenly: Tuamasaga (180), Ātua (26) and Faʻasaleleaga (17) hold 88% of everything between them, and Apia alone accounts for 42.

What this is

This is a small dataset and the site is deliberately smaller because of it. Samoa gets a country page and 1 town guide rather than the full set of category and region indexes the larger countries carry — with 253 venues in total there is nothing a separate page could say that this one cannot. The breakdown is 68 hotels, 56 restaurants, 28 takeaways, 25 cafés, 19 motels and 19 b&bs and guest houses.

Read the percentages on this page with that size in mind. At this scale a single new listing moves a share by a visible amount, and the gap between what is mapped and what exists on the ground is wider than in a country with a large mapping community — 4 of the 253 venues here publish opening hours and 17 list a website, so for anywhere you actually intend to visit, a phone call still beats this page. What the data is good for is orientation: which villages have anything at all, roughly how much, and of what kind.

37 venues carry a cuisine tag (15%). The most common across Samoa are chinese (8), pizza (5), coffee shop (4), burger (4) and italian (3). Those national proportions are the baseline every town page is measured against — when a page says somewhere over-indexes on one thing, this is what it is being compared to.

The balance between eating and sleeping runs 46% to 54% here. That is a high accommodation share, and it is what a country that hosts more visitors than it has residents to feed looks like in the data.

On data quality, which sets a hard ceiling on what any of these pages can tell you: 4 venues publish opening hours (2%), 17 list a website, and 0 record step-free access. 0 carry enough detail for a page of their own; the rest are listed on their town pages, because a page with a name and a map pin on it is worth nobody's time. A small dataset — single listings move the percentages here, so read the numbers as indicative.
